The pioneering Pakistan Fashion Design Council [PFDC] and L’Oréal Paris, the world’s leading beauty brand, presented the third and final day of the seventh consecutive PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2017 – a platform that endeavors to define and present contemporary and traditional Pakistani Bridal fashion, while fusing hair and makeup trends to create looks for the upcoming bridal season of 2017-2018. PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2017 highlighted the bridal collections of 21 designers that showcased the business of Pakistani bridal fashion, at Nishat Banquets, Lahore.

The final day of #PLBW17 started with early evening bridal showcases featuring Tabya Khan, IVY Couture by Shazia and Sehr, Zuria Dor and Farah & Fatima. This was followed by evening bridal showcases featuring Nomi Ansari, Saira * Shakira, Nickie Nina, Sadaf Fawad Khan Bridals and Fahad Hussayn, as summarized below.

The world’s top beauty brand, L’Oréal Paris, also announced Pakistan’s leading lady Mahira Khan as the Official Spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris Hair Care in Pakistan. Mahira joins the team of prestigious women that have been representing the iconic brand L’Oréal Paris for decades. Mahira was unveiled on the third day of the prestigious PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2017 as the superstar made a surprise appearance on the ramp and spoke about beauty and women empowerment.

Enlarging the scope of the bridal platform, this year at #PLBW17 the council welcomed two distinct set of shows: In the early evening, the PFDC brought to fashion week bridal and trousseau shows for popular, commercially acclaimed brands. Later in the evening, the PFDC presented shows from luxury design houses.

This year, the L’Oréal Paris team will also redefine both bridal make-up and hair trends for the season using L’Oréal Paris Makeup and Excellence Crème products. The participating bridal week hair and make-up styling team for #PLBW17 will be N-Pro/NGENTs.

Indeed in continuation of the BeautyMeetsFashion platform each season, this year L’Oréal Paris Makeup collaborated with international makeup expert Saima Bargfrede to create and define distinct bridal makeup looks for the season. Additionally, L’Oréal Paris continues its engagement of the bridal week platform with their runway to point-of-sale collaboration, this year with Ali Xeeshan, on their critically acclaimed Excellence Crème Ambassador of Fashion platform which was revealed on the first day of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week.

In terms of further patrons and sponsors, the success of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week continues to prompt private sector associates to grow in their engagement of the platform to launch new products, marketing campaigns and promotional activities sharing a common vision with the PFDC to develop and promote Pakistan’s fashion industry. In this same spirit, this year the PFDC welcomed Ehsan Sehbai at the helm of Shaheen Airlines as the Black Carpet Sponsor and Airline Partner; Dewan Motors, importers of BMW in Pakistan as the Luxury Automobile Partner and Careem as Transportation Partner, Dolce Vita as a Lifestyle Sponsor, Borjan as the Official Footwear Partner, Aquafina as the Official Beverage Partner and Papercut as the Official Printing Partner.

EARLY EVENING BRIDAL SHOWCASES

Tabya Khan

Day-2 of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2017 early evening bridal showcases was opened by Tabya Khan with her bridal collection titled ‘Feroza’ at the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week.

Model and Actress Iman Ali participated in the designer’s showcase as a celebrity showstopper.

IVY Couture by Shazia and Sehr

IVY Couture by Shazia & Sehr made its PLBW debut with their bridal collection ‘Rang-e-Perahan’ at the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. The collection was about the amalgamation of the Ottoman and Mughal empires that have had rich histories with robust and intricate designs and quite similar aesthetics likewise in culture, clothing, architecture and religious portrayals.

This homogeneity and richness of both empires were reflected in ‘Rang-e-Perahan’ through different approaches such as the compositions, embellishments, embroideries, digital printing, block printing and the color stories. The collection incorporated an eclectic mix of rich and contemporary fabrics such as tissue, organza, net, jamawar (kamkhwab) and Indian zari. It boasts a combination of traditional and modern techniques such as adda work, laser cut and digital print throughout the collection. The color palette ranges from bright to pastel hues to cater to the traditional and contemporary needs. The collection comprised of 20 designs in a variety of traditional and contemporary silhouettes such as lenhga choli, straight shirt with gharara, A-line shirt with sharara, peplum, gowns and also featured four menswear designs.

Actresses and Sisters Urwa Hocane and Mawra Hocance participated in the designer’s showcase as celebrity showstoppers.

Zuria Dor

Zuria Dor made its PLBW debut with couture collection ‘King of Her Castle’ at the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. The collection draws its inspiration from the progressive Pakistani woman who is all set to compete with the world.

‘King of Her Castle’ incorporated a variety of fabrics including organza, raw silk, kundan net, kumkhaab and net. The silhouettes were a fusion of western and eastern cuts. Each design of the 16-piece collection was adorned with geometrical and floral patterns, with flat and 3D embellishments, hand painted enhanced with metallic handwork

The colour palette ranged from shades of ivory, yellow, mustard, green progressing towards pops of color of bright pink, lilac and coral and finishing with mint and metallic. The collection comprised an eclectic mix of lehnga choli, traditional gharara, long and short jackets paired with culottes and long trailing, two-legged shararas, trousers with skirt, Dhaka pants with exaggerated sleeved choli, peplum tops with cigarette pants, long slit shirts with straight trousers and capes.

Farah & Fatima

Farah & Fatima showcased their bridal collection ‘Meraki’ at the seventh PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. The collection draws its inspiration from the meaning of the Greek word itself i.e. doing something with soul, creativity or love.

‘Meraki’ infused elegance of phulkari and chintz with contemporary designs that compliments the essence of a traditional bride.

 

EVENING BRIDAL SHOWCASES

Nomi Ansari

The evening bridal showcase was opened by Nomi Ansari who showcased his bridal collection ‘Qabool Hai’ in collaboration with Hamna Amir Jewellery at the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. The collection was buoyed by regal, Islamic and Mughal iconography in vivid jewel tones, including traditional floral motifs and miniature art.

Each design of the 26-piece bridal collection was additionally redolent of the stirring melodies from K. Asif’s magnus opus Mughal-E-Azam, starring Madhubala and Dilip Kumar, including Mohabbat Ki Jhooti Kahani et al and traverses a color palette ranging from ivory and écru; to peach, ochre and rust; and from a rich cornucopia of intense hues, including lime, Rani pink, magenta, violet, emerald to meditative midnight blue. For added drama and versatility, a series of custom-made digital prints canvassed with traditional flora and fauna motifs including the Mughal lotus flower; the perennially romantic rose as well as ornamental miniatures and exotic birds are transposed onto a bevy of statement lehengas.

Dovetailed with and to complement the exquisite bridal collection is a range of custom-made jewellery by Hamna Amir from Lahore who has created stunning artisanal pieces with meenakaari, kundan, aari work and delicate fretwork for a traditional-meets -contemporary vibe.

Saira * Shakira

Saira*Shakira showcased their bridal collection ‘Artemisia’ at the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. Like the Greek warrior-queen that it is named after, Artemisia is an ode to the beauty and strength of women. Juxtaposing edgy silhouettes with traditional embellishment and intricate patterns, the design house stayed true to its signature contemporary philosophy and presented a collection for the modern-day bride sure to make her feel like a queen on her special day.

Nickie Nina

Nickie Nina showcased their collection “ADEENA – Generation IV” in collaboration with renowned jewellery brand, Gold by Reama Malik at the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. Inspired by magnificence of Eastern antiquity – from the architectural treasures of Eastern Europe to the intricate craftsmanship of Southeast Asia – Nickie Nina’s latest bridal collection is a conglomeration of cultures that celebrate the regal beauty, dynamic colours and unparalleled grace of the East.

Reimagined with a contemporary twist; delicate gotta embroidery and wasli textures surround bright and bold borders, precious pearls were intertwined amongst Turkish motifs in karchob and sequins and stones sit upon traditional chunri prints. In quintessential Nickie Nina style, vibrant pops of colour in gold, silver, royal blue, and coral were featured across the collection – topped off with rose cut diamantes for an extra air of elegance amongst gold and silver detailing.

The collection comprised of 18 designs that incorporated luxe fabrics such as tissue, atlas, kamkhuab, net tissue, velvet and chunri in a variety of structured eastern silhouettes.

Actors Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir participated in the designer’s showcase as celebrity showstoppers.

Sadaf Fawad Khan Bridals

SFK Bridals made its debut with the bridal collection ‘Elayna’ at the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2017. Dedicated to and named after her daughter Elayna, meaning ‘Shining Light’, the collection takes inspiration from the colors of the Moonbow, a lunar rainbow. It is the culmination of Sadaf Fawad Khan’s unrelenting passion for creating and designing.

Each design of the collection was set in singular metallic tones of red, blue, yellow, lilac and peach, reflecting the brilliance of the night sky. Incorporating the reflection and refraction of light that forms a rainbow, the motifs were embellished with crystals with zardozi setting and appliqué work for outfits that shine and dazzle the senses. Using rich fabrics such as such as tissue with a hint of net, texturing and detailing, the collection was designed to be a celebration of Pakistani handcrafted workmanship, fused into unique silhouettes of elegant simplicity.

L’ORÉAL PARIS HAIR CARE LOCAL SPOKESPERSON REVEAL – MAHIRA KHAN

Fahad Hussayn

Fahad Hussayn Couture showcased ‘Hoshruba: Dara Shikoh Aur Sunehri Churail’, a bridal couture collection as the grand finale for the seventh edition of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. The collection delved into the world of magical realism where historical figures meet folklore in a fantastically penned saga of larger than life Mughal grandeur.

The story encapsulated in ‘Hoshruba’ depicted a parallel universe of current time and inherent taboos and notions related with beauty, love and war. Taking design directions from Iranian influences & folklores, the collection incorporated Persian-Islamic architecture executed in collaboration with drama and color. The collection incorporated intricate silk thread embroideries, interlaced with delicate hand work of exquisite craftsmanship on custom nets, organza, tissue, chiffon and other exclusive surfaces, alongside their in-house hand painted and vintage revival print. The collection featured exclusive one-off cuts, hues and designs with majestic detailing that combine the best elements from the world of art, architecture, and avant-garde. It also featured a menswear range.

Actor Mekaal Zulfiqar, Model and Actress Amna Ilyas and Musicians Ali Sethi and Zeb Bangash participated in the designer’s showcase as celebrity showstoppers.
